http://uwepetercom.blogspot.com/2010/04/snowbirds-and-white-cities-san-diego-to.html
San Diego to Ajo | California | Arizona | USA | 2010-04-05
The term Snowbird is used to describe people from the U.S. Northeast, U.S. Midwest, or Canada who spend a large portion of winter in warmer locales such as California or Arizona. There are places like Quartzsite, Arizona, that have been labeled "white cities" because from a bird's eye view all the motorhomes cover the landscape in white and then in the summer are gone.

Mono Lake | California | USA | 2008-06-14
This salty sea at the east entrance to Yosemite National Park is a big service reservoir for the californian cities. The Tufa Stones look like swimming rocks. And the birds are happy about this quiet place with billions of little flies to eat.

For me San Francisco is the most beautiful and interesting city in America. Starting at the Golden Gate Bridge in the north, going to the harbour region with the piers and ships, going to Downtown around the Market Street ...

Golden Gate Bridge | San Francisco | California | USA | 2008-06-09
Construction of the bridge began on January 5, 1933. The project was finished by April 1937. The Golden Gate Bridge is not only the most popular place to commit suicide in the United States but the most popular in the entire world. The deck is approximately 245 feet (75 m) above the water. After a fall of approximately four seconds, jumpers hit the water at some 76 miles per hour (122 km/h). At such a speed, water has proven to take on properties similar to concrete.

Highway 1 | California | USA | 2008-06-06
One of the greatest streets of the world. Its well-known reputation has good reasons: You see beautiful beaches, wonderful State Parks, lots of different animals (like sea elephants) and steep cliffs. But only when the typical californian fog is away.

Los Angeles ... the biggest californian city. But in the end there are only a few spots where visitors are going. You can find 90% of them in Hollywood or at the beaches ...

This is our alltime favorite for National Parks. You can see a lot of beautiful joshua trees. You have a lot of good trails for hiking. And you have wonderful campgrounds without electricity. Therefore it is totally dark during the night and you can see millions of stars.

San Francisco | California | USA | 1997
This was my second visit to San Franciso after 1995. Like 2 years ago and 11 years later this city is one of the unusual cities for me. Here are some pics, taken as slides and digital scaned.

"Cycling the Highway 1 - Part 3"

http://uwepetercom.blogspot.com/1995/06/cycling-highway-1-part-3.html
San Francisco | California | USA | 1995
After my 3-weeks trip from Seattle to San Francisco I spent some days in this californian city. It was my first but not last visit. I explored the city with my bicycle. And I met a couple from Stanford, which I learned to know 2 weeks before in Oregon. I spent the last 2 days with them in their house. It was a perfect end of a perfect holiday.

Astoria - San Francisco | Oregon | California | USA | 1995
The Oregon Coast is famous for its beautiful views and landscapes. With the bicycle I saw a lot of them. And it was great to get to know a lot of cyclists who did the same route. Finally the crossing of the Golden Gate Bridge after a ride of 2.000km (1.250 mls) was one of my big 5 private moments.
